Oh Kitna.. The Media Can Bash You Again!!
The quarterback for the Detroit Lions, Jon Kitna, decided it would be funny if he dressed up as defensive line coach Joe Cullen. Coach Cullen pleaded “no contest to disorderly conduct to impaired driving” twice last year when he was driving. The catch was that he was driving naked. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/nfl/10/31/bc.fbn.lions.kitna.scos.ap/index.html Kitna dressed up as a naked man with a Detroit visor on imitating his coach. Kitna regrets what he dressed up as and didn’t mean it to be insulting. The media is arguing against Kitna and saying that it was a poor choice on dressing up as a coach and mocking him. Kitna wasn’t trying to “demean Joe,” he was just trying to have fun. Coach Joe Cullen had to comment when the media asked about his thoughts. Even though the quarterback claims that he wasn’t trying to bring attention to Joe or that it wasn’t supposed to be mean I feel that there was a fine line and Kitna definitely crossed it! It’s Halloween and there are a million costumes Joe could’ve been, he didn’t have to mock a coach. Coach Cullen didn’t seem to have a problem with it but it’s the wrong thing to do. I don’t understand what’s funny to Jon when Cullen was sent to two years or probation and mandatory meetings of alcohol anonymous. http://www.newzfire.com/sports/kitna-dressed-up-as-naked-lions-coach-ap.html Jon Kitna has so much class and just showed the media that he can back up what he says. He promised Detroit ten wins and was starting to show that they have hope reaching it. The media was talking about how he was a bad quarterback and couldn’t back up what he said. He finally proved to the media do they stopped bashing him. Now they can bash him again. Kitna brought this on himself and deserves what he gets!

Lavin, I agree with your comments. I understand that Jon Kitna was just trying to stir up a laugh and trying to be funny by dressing up as Joe Cullen. I believe deep down that Kitna didn't mean to humiliate or embarrass his coach. I also think that Kitna truly regrets having done this. Having said all of this, I think what Kitna did was low and he obviously put no thought behind this decision. I specifically remember this case of Coach Cullen being impaired while driving and I do not think it is a laughing matter whatsoever even though it happened almost year ago. With all the humiliation and the embarrassment that Joe Cullen and his family went through, why would someone on your own team who witnessed the public humiliation of his coach first hand pull a stunt like this. Kitna definitely didn't use his head on this one, and you're right Lavin Kitna deserves whats he gets and should be bashed by the media for his actions.
Lavin, I agree with you on the point you make about Kitna just trying to be funny. He wasn't trying to insult his coach, he just wanted to get a few laughs. Now, he defintely regrets this decision after this was made public. He is going to take a lot of flak from the media for doing this. He finally was starting to get a little respect for being a good quarterback and team leader. Now he is going to have to deal with the backlash that will come from this contoversy. He obviously didn't think about the consequences that could have resulted with the decision he made. Now he is going to have to deal with a situation that could have been easily avoided.
Wow, I never heard about this story but wow, he is stupid. It is never funny to make fun of a teammate or let alone a coach for law accusations. The man was sentenced for two years probation! What if Donovan McNabb just walked around during Halloween pretending to be Andy Reid, wearing a costume of him with drugs from his house that is his son's or something along the lines of that? Or one of Kobe's teammates walked around with a sign that said "I almost got in trouble for raping a white girl" for Halloween? It is simply wrong.
