Goodell: Oh How Little You Really Know
Roger Goodell isn’t happy with the cable network that broadcast’s the National Football League games. The National Football League had a deal with Comcast Corporation to broadcast the games. Comcast corp. decided to make the games a package deal and the fans have to buy the package in order to see the games. Nine million people could see the games before this move was made. Now only one million can view the games. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/25171 This isn’t the first time the NFL has had problems with a cable company. The NFL had issue with Time Warner Cable as well. Fans usually have Time Warner because they can offer more services to their home just by using one company. If they get Directv then the fans have to pay someone else more money for their internet service if they don't carry their cable service. The NFL are the greedy ones that came up with their own channel and then tried to make as much money as they could off of it. It’s the NFL’s fault. If they were really concerned about how many homes they reach and if the fans are getting what they want then they should have made it more reasonable for all companies to handle broadcasting their station instead of trying to strong arm people with their childish advertising bashing of companies that refuse to pay millions to put in on the airwaves. So, fans miss maybe a dozen games a year or so that they televise on the NFL network. Half of those fans wouldn't have watched even if they weren't on the NFL network so as far as I'm concerned the NFL can take their special little channel and keep moving. Goodell is making an issue out of something that the NFL created. He shouldn’t be able to point the finger at someone unless it’s pointing back at him.

I totally i gree with you lavin. This is a troubling issue. When you have so many die hard fans that want to watch their team on sunday's and they can't because they aren't on cable TV is disturbing. Think about all the hard workers in our country who are trying to make a living for their families while also trying to have what little freetime on the weekends that they do to watch their team and they can't because its on the NFL Network. It poses a problem in our society that isn't deadly but just downright inconvenient. I think they should change it back to the way it once was so everyone can enjoy what little free time they have.
I am definitely on your side concerning this issue. I think it is ridiculous that the NFL has to make their own television channel just to make more money that they don't need. They are not hurting the fans but also hurting themselves because now instead of nine million viewers they now only have one million viewers. This is a huge mistake on the part of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. This is the problem of professional sports today. Professional organizations are always trying to make that extra dollar that it is not only not needed but unnecessary as well. As much as fans put into buying tickets, purchasing merchandise, and becoming life long fasn and supporters of the NFL and its teams, they don't deserve to pay even more money to watch the games while at their homes. The NFL should think about eliminating their channel because they are cheating their fans.
Lavin, I agree with you on the fact that the NFL is being greedy with it's creation of the NFL network. They only made the network to make more money, the league is clearly upset at the lack of subscriptions. Many people do not want to pay the extra money to get Comcast cable and just deal with watching the games that are on basic cable. If the NFL only broadcasted games on the NFL network then they would see a lot more subscriptions to the cable provider. If this were the case the NFL might see the profits it desires, but until then they should stop complaining about their lack of profits.
Kevin, I also agree with this statement about the NFL. The NFL should go back to the way it use to be when everyone had the chance to view the games. One of my favorite days of the week is Sunday because it is a day when you can sit back, relax and watch football. It is the way it has always been and will always be. The NFL is getting to caught up in the money issue and they need to rethink thier policies. It is an inconvience to the customer to pay extra for something that is not needed. This reminds me of the college football BIG TEN Network. It is a stupid policy where the cable companies have to pay extra and as a result we cannot watch the games. The audience is who the leagues wnat to appeal to and by doing this it takes away the major component of the game.
Mr. Lavin,
Here is my stance on the NFL and their Network. I think the NFL network is a good idea. The sport has gotten so big that I think they do need their own network. But to charge for it is ridiculous. When the network first came out it was free. People loved it because it was NFL 24/7. But after they charged for it knows one really wanted to pay. Yes it's cool to watch the NFL all the time but it’s not a necessity. Second the games that they show on the network are awful. First it is on Thursday night and the teams hate it. And second the games aren’t good. But now people who want to watch their home team play can't because the NFL needs to make more money for some reason. It's not like they are going to fold next year. Everyone loves the NFL and the Network should be free.
I agree with you here I think they did put it on themselves by putting games on to the NFL network. No one would want to buy a channel to watch maybe one game because your team will be on there for one week. So why should they have to pay for an entire season just to watch one game. Roger Goodell is just being annoying and looking for attention because this really isn't something that should be discussed during the season. If anything they should discuss it during the off-season. But it shouldn't really be discussed because it doesn't really matter.
